By Dailymail. One of the stars of Ice Road Truckers, Darrell Ward, has died in a plane crash while on his way to film a documentary about the recovery of plane wrecks. Ward, 52, was on his way to Missoula, Montana and was killed alongside his co-pilot. The plane ended up a fiery wreck after smashing down onto the Interstate at the end of the runway. The plane crashed into the shoulder of I near the eastbound lanes, by mile marker The National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating the case.

For the past nine seasons, a determined group of long-haul truckers have kept the remote villages and work camps of Canada’s North supplied during the harsh winter by driving their rigs over hundreds of miles on ice roads cut through frozen muskeg and across the surface of icy rivers and lakes. Over the years, the drivers have battled ferocious storms, freezing temperatures and bitter rivalries, but have always managed to overcome these challenges to deliver supplies to the remote communities they serve.

The drivers are generally hardworking and good natured, but some are a little rough around the edges. There’s a constant threat of injury — or even death — when doing this dangerous job. We know when it’s clear to do stupid stuff, like drift around a corner. All that stuff that we do, it’s all done safely. But they never put it in the show that way,” he said. Many people find themselves inspired to take up a new hobby or even make a career change after falling in love with it on a TV show. But the career change led to real tragedy for Brett Colley. Tragically, he didn’t survive the accident. Hugh Rowland quickly became a fan favorite among viewers, so many people were concerned when he was involved in a serious accident several years ago. But the crash didn’t involve a big rig and Rowland wasn’t even driving.
